Today I took Harry for his birthday surprise to Harewood House in Leeds for a ‘penguin feeding experience’. It was his 21st birthday on Saturday and I was thinking of fun birthday presents that he would remember forever when I thought of this idea. He loves penguins and I do too so I literally searched on google ‘meet a penguin’ and a ‘penguin feeding experience’ came up. After making a phone call to the house I had booked two tickets and my secret plan was underway.

Today has been one of the best days I have ever had and if you love penguins like us then you have to experience it!! When we arrived at Harewood House (click here if you want to explore the website) we went to the information desk and were met by the keeper who took us over to meet our cute friends. We were told in advance to wear sturdy shoes and were given gloves on arrival.

The penguins we were feeding today were ‘Humboldt penguins’ so they are very small and cute. We got them at a great time as after a lot of fish they were jumping in the pool and splashing us. We were encouraged to take lots of photographs and to stroke the Penguins and whilst we did we were told lots of facts and all of our own questions were answered.

Whilst feeding one of the older female penguins, she took a liking to my flamingo fluffy portable charger and tried to take it and put it in her nest. We were then told that she had a liking for unusual things. Luckily Harry managed to get this moment on video and we keep laughing every time we watch it. This is the cheeky penguin below!!

Harewood House is wonderful and is absolutely breath taking. With a farm, penguin pool, bird house, a beautiful mansion and grounds; there is SO much to do and on a nice day it is definitely worth a visit! The site is open between March and October and a £16.50 ticket gets you access to the site and farm. To book a penguin feeding experience it is a little bit more but worth it! So click here if you want to meet some cute penguins 🙂

If you could see my google search history it looks very strange but there are so many hidden treasures out there like Harewood that are just waiting to be found. We’re from Manchester but Leeds isn’t too far away and the look on his face throughout the whole experience just made the journey even more worth it. I like to think I am a good present buyer but after today my ego has definitely gone up!

I can’t wait for mine and Harry’s next day trip which is when we go for a spa day in September. Write soon
